You may have just qualified as a nail tech and are brimming with excitement to finally launch your new-found passion into a fully-fledged business. But where do you start to attract new clients and actually get those bums on seats?! Here we outline our top tips on finding a new and most importantly, regular client base.

1. Use social media as your portfolio: Create a portfolio showcasing your work and the various nail services you offer. Include high-quality photos of different nail designs and styles you have done. This portfolio will serve as visual proof of your skills and help potential clients see the quality of your work.

You don't need expensive equipment for photos, your phone and good lighting will work just fine. Pick a spot in your salon that has great natural light or use a bright desk lamp and take lots of photos from various angles. If using clients' hands, ask them to hold props such as coffee cups or phones are a great way of staging the photo without it looking too posed (we all know how hard it is to get them to relax their hands!) Here are some great examples:

You may have found that it is much easier to take good photos of your own nails, you can take your time and try out different poses at your leisure without the pressure of feeling that you're taking up too much of your client's time. So try  working on your non dominant hand and photographing your work that way.

Tip! Neutral coloured sleeves are great to cover the hand so that you're focusing on just the fingers and nails, this helps to draw the eye to your work.

2. Offer Special Promotions or Packages: Attract clients by offering special promotions or packages, especially when starting out. For example, you could offer discounted rates for first-time clients, loyalty programs for repeat customers, or package deals for multiple services. These incentives can entice clients to try your services and encourage them to become regular customers.

Tip! Sign up to graphic design platform, Canva (canva.com), a free plan is available where you add your company name to pre-designed templates for items such as loyalty cards or social media posts offering promotions and packages. Simply type in keywords such as 'nail salon' or 'loyalty cards' and a plethora of designs will be offered to you. A simple and cost effective way of developing branding for your business and will help your social media feed to look slick and professional.

3. Network and Collaborate: Connect with local businesses and professionals in related industries. Build relationships with hair salons, spas, bridal shops or event planners who may refer clients to you. Collaborate on joint promotions or events to expand your reach and gain exposure to new potential clients.

4. Utilise Social Media: We can't emphasise enough how important it is to develop a strong presence on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest. Potential new clients will naturally head to your social channels to check out your work, prices and location before reaching out to you so regularly share high-quality photos of your nail art designs, post educational content, and engage with your audience. Use relevant hashtags and location tags to reach a wider audience and attract potential clients in your area.

5. Ask for Client Referrals: There is nothing quite like word of mouth. Satisfied clients can be a valuable source of referrals. Encourage your clients to refer their friends, family, or colleagues to your services. Consider implementing a referral program where you offer incentives or discounts to clients who refer new customers to you.

6. Collaborate with Influencers or Bloggers: Partner with local influencers or bloggers who have a significant following in your area. Offer them complimentary services in exchange for featuring your work on their platforms or recommending your services to their audience. Their endorsement can help generate interest and attract new clients.

7. Offer Excellent Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to every client you serve. Create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere in your salon, listen attentively to their needs and preferences, and ensure they are satisfied with your services. Happy clients are more likely to become repeat customers and recommend you to others

8. Attend Events or Trade Shows: Participate in local events or trade shows related to beauty and wellness. Set up a booth or offer mini nail services to showcase your skills and connect with potential clients. These events can provide valuable exposure and networking opportunities.

Remember, word-of-mouth referrals and positive reviews are powerful tools for attracting new clients. Focus on delivering exceptional services and building strong relationships with your existing clients to create a loyal customer base that will help grow your business.
